Belated hello

Now that I've posted a few times, I guess I should say hello.

I'm a hobbyist-level enthusiast in the deep south USA (Louisiana) who uses CAD for small personal projects and such. I've tried DraftSight, nanoCAD, DoubleCAD and a few others. While they're fine programs, QCAD seems to be a very nice compromise between complexity, power and ease-of-use. Plus the QCAD community is great.

Hello Len - nice to meet you!

I had a similar Odyssey behind me before I finally found QCAD. This SW suits most of my CAD needs - I'm pretty happy with it.

Well, if I were learning CAD with a view toward a career in it (which at this point in my life is waaay past ), I'd probably bite the bullet and concentrate on DraftSight (or one of the other AutoCAD 2D clones) then move to 3D, since that's apparently where the jobs are. However, that being said, there's still a whole lot more overlap than difference with QCAD, anyway, so much knowledge would be transferable.

But after 15 years in advertising / graphic design and then 20 years in IT, I'm not looking for a new career ...even though there are days!

I think QCAD is many times more powerful than my biggest needs will demand.
